LED: What is all the Fuss About? 7 Benefits of Switching to Energy Efficient Lighting

Every man and his dog have now heard the word, LED. Energy efficiency is a pressing topic and it’s important to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of energy efficient products including energy efficient lighting. You have likely even had a sales man knock on your door and offer you free LED lights or several phone calls about why their LED product is the best. This article should prepare you with the questions you should ask in order to determine yourself if the product is all that it claims to be.

There are many benefits to switching from your existing halogen lights, fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), mercury vapour highbays and so on. I have listed a number of benefits below:

  1. These existing lights are inefficient, meaning they use a far higher wattage to perform the same purpose of efficient, low wattage LED lights. Higher wattage = wasted power consumption and therefore unnecessarily increasing your lighting bill. The savings in regard to power consumption are very obvious when you compare a halogen light at 50W to our Philips 7W Master LED MR16 Downlight. Existing fittings in your commercial dwelling often contain 2 x 36W fluorescent tubes with magnetic ballasts resulting in consumption of 88W, compare this to our 20W LED Luminaire with Sensor, and you can understand where I am going with this. Existing lights consume a lot of energy, and increase your lighting bill for no benefit. An existing mercury vapour highbay in your factory can consume 424W and we replace this with a 95W LED highbay.
  2. You reduce your carbon footprint and your customers notice. Every LED lighting proposal we provide (free of charge) will note how many tonnes of CO2e is saved. Todays’ customers continue to demand eco-friendly business practices so you will be rewarded with loyal customers and a positive reputation as you include this in your marketing material.
  3. You will save a lot of money on maintenance costs because energy efficient LEDs are extremely long lasting. Your existing halogens will only last 5000 hours, compare this to the 40,000 hour rated life on the Philips 7W LED MR16 Downlight. We installed 4000 of these Philips LED lamps in the guestrooms at Hilton Sydney. Your inefficient fluorescent tubes may last 10,000 hours which you can compare to a 50,000 hour rated life LED tubes such as the European designed LED tubes and LED Luminaires that we offer.
  4. LED lights do not contain harmful mercury. Your existing mercury filled T8 fluorescent lamps and CFLs are recycled safely when choosing to do your lighting upgrade with Easily Green and therefore do not end up in landfill. You receive a recycling certificate that recognises another environmental contribution made by your business.
  5. As energy rates continue to rise, you can dramatically reduce your kWh consumption and therefore save money on your electricity bill.
  6. Although LED lights are expensive, there is a government initiative under the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) that makes an LED lighting upgrade affordable for commercial dwellings. The NSW ESS offers businesses a financial incentive, through Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs), to upgrade to energy efficient lighting. A major advantage Easily Green has is that we offer the discount at point of sale, meaning you only pay the NET cost, after the discount is applied.
  7. Easily Green are an established energy efficiency company and can therefore secure the best ESC price and trade the ESCs on your behalf. This is why we can offer the discount at point on sale on every quote.
