Below is a fantastic technical explanation of the science behind solar pv systems.
Photovoltaic solar energy can be explained quite simply. The actual name itself comes from the very process that defines how solar energy works, this being solar photovoltaic systems.
You can break up the word photovoltaic (pv) into two words, to understand it’s meaning quite simply:
- Photo – stands for photon, being a photon of light energy (from the sun)
- Voltaic – means electrical current, which is what the solar panels generate as a result of absorbing a photon of light energy from the sun
To further explain…
The sun produces radiation energy, when the sunlight hits the solar panels, a photon of light energy is absorbed by semi-conductor cells.
This process results in the release on an electron, and it’s the released electrons that then create an electric current.
The electric current travels from the solar panels into an inverter. The inverter is critical as it converts the electrical current from the solar panels into usable energy. Let me explain… the solar panels only produce DC power (direct current) however in order to power your office or commercial dwelling, we need AC power (alternating current). This is the job of the inverter, to take the DC power from the solar panels and convert it into usable AC power.
It is for this very reason, that we offer a solar photovoltaic system that comes with an AC power output guarantee (not an intangible DC power promise) – the only one in Australia. The usable energy is what matters and therefore you receive, in writing, a 5 year AC power output guarantee certificate which states a guaranteed kWh yield in the first 5 years.
This guarantee is project specific, in writing, attached to a European designed complete solar pv system.
You can also log on to your account and personally monitor your savings, with access to your power output data through the inverter wireless connectivity e.g. your monthly energy savings.
